Artemis Film Festival is First to Celebrate Female Action Heroes

< back to blog home

Artemis Film Festival

She Is Fierce! is proud to partner with the Artemis Women In Action Film Festival to spread stories and videos featuring empowered women!

The Artemis Women In Action Film Festival is the first festival exclusively devoted to female action films!

The Artemis Film Festival will be held in April 24-26, 2015 in Los Angeles.  It will feature classic and present female action movies and honor the cinematic female action greats, including the men and women who pioneered them and those who contributed to the success of the genre. The festival will include a competition for up-and-coming filmmakers as a means of celebrating and promoting lesser-known works, up-and-coming action stars, and encouraging more filmmakers to develop films celebrating women of action!

In order to be considered, all projects must feature women either starring or co-starring as a physical action character.  The films can be written, directed, or produced by a woman or a man, but  must celebrate women in kick a** roles!  The festival will feature films (over 40 minutes) and shorts (under 40 minutes) in the narrative, documentary, or animation category. There is also have a screenplay (100-140 pgs.) competition.

The festival has already made headlines and has received film submissions from all over the world – each featuring amazing women stepping outside of the normal confines of women’s film roles. To grow the festival to meet the unanticipated global enthusiasm, Artemis Founder Melanie Wise started The Women Kick Ass Project, an IndieGoGo campaign, which runs until March 4, 2015.  The campaign will raise additional funds for the festival budget, allowing the Artemis team to make a bigger, bolder festival that will further social change through images of empowered women!

If you or someone you know has produced a screenplay, film or short film with a female in an action role, you can submit an application to be featured!  The regular deadline is quickly approaching on 02/27/15 and the late deadline is 03/06/15. Submissions can be made on WithoutABox, Film Freeway, Film Festival Life, or directly here: http://www.artemisfilmfestival.com/suboptions/
