Be Your Best Self

Do you ever feel like you’re in a constant battle with yourself: to be better, to be healthier, to be skinnier, to get more sleep, to exercise more, to eat less, to work faster and to get it all done? The list goes on and on.

We’ve all been there and we’re all smart enough to know that it’s not a healthy way to live. I truly think we can be our best self without constant struggle and judgment. It simply comes down to setting a daily intention to be your best self (whatever this may look like to you, and it will look different for each person).

Those who practice yoga, know that before the workout begins the instructor asks everyone in the group to set their own intention for class. This is a very important part of practicing yoga because it forces you into the present moment and gets you to start aligning your mind with your body. In no time you find yourself being mindful and intentional about your thoughts and movements as everything starts to flow together.

It’s empowering to be in full control of your own thoughts and movements. It allows you to see that you’re in control of your own life. Why not make it a daily habit to set positive intentions, instead of making it a habit to focus on what you’ve done wrong or what you could be doing better. You don’t have to be at yoga to practice loving yourself, being patient with yourself and taking care of yourself. It’s something you can do each and every day.

Live the life that’s right for you, not the life that’s right for everyone else. Only then will you be free from self-doubt and negativity. Say it with me, I am free to be ME. Can you even remember who you were before the world told you who you should be? Happiness is found when you stop comparing yourself to everyone else and what they want. It’s found when you stop living for other people and making decisions based on their opinions. Be true to yourself. You are the only person in charge of your life. The only question is: What do you want to do with the rest of it?

“There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.”  – W. Clement Stone

Life isn’t perfect, but it sure is great. Stop trying to create a perfect life, and start living an imperfect life in radical amazement. Get up every morning and take a good look around in a way that takes nothing for granted. Never treat life casually. Everything is extraordinary. Every day is a gift. To be spiritual in any way is to be amazed in every way. Be mindful, be joyful.

You can’t have a positive life with a negative attitude. When negativity controls your thoughts, it limits your behavior, actions and opportunities. If you realized how powerful your thoughts were, I bet you’d try your best to never think another negative thought again. It’s okay to have down days, but it’s important to be able to let go and be at peace with the reality of these ups and downs. If you do this, it’ll soon become clear that life’s ups require life’s downs.

Happiness is the result of your thinking. Happiness starts with you – not with your relationships, not with your job, not with your money, but with YOU. It’s not always easy to find happiness in ourselves, but it is always impossible to find it elsewhere. Regardless of the situation you face, your attitude is your choice.

So go on and be your best self. Be nothing less than your best – and do it every single day.
