Teenagers Belissa Escobedo, Rhiannon McGavin, and Zariya Allen recently shared their passion for poetry on the Queen Latifah Show. Escobedo, McGavin, and Allen are a part of a non-profit organization that promotes teen literacy called Get Lit. The three young women performed their spoken word poem titled, Somewhere in America, on the show which resulted in chills and praise from Queen Latifah audience members.

In the interview following the performance, McGavin explained, “I think poetry is the best way to express emotions. I believe that if you write your feelings down, memorize the words and perform them aloud – that you won’t be bothered by that problem. It’s an amazing way to help people – especially teens.”
