Best Advice You'll Ever Get

I had just lost my job of 13 years and was struggling to make sense of what happened while figuring out how we were going to pay our bills, keep our house, and make sure our oldest daughter continued attending college.

Just a few years earlier, my husband Keith was laid-off by the former tele-communication giant AT&T, where he worked for 19 years. Following his lay-off, Keith went back to school and worked part-time for almost two-years before finally landing a full-time position in his field.

As you may have guessed, my sudden job loss was not part of the plan and I found myself desperately struggling to find light in a situation that devastated, scared and confused me. I’m happy to share that I finally found it when I made the decision to use my experience and talents to help others who are struggling – both through my work and by volunteering in my community. Doing good made me feel good and it gave me a much more positive perspective of my own life.

Living to give is a positive living strategy that will change and transform you in ways you never thought possible. It will enable you to put your worries aside, feel better about yourself and give you confidence to proactively address the challenges you face in your own life.

You’ll learn that using your gifts to make a difference in the lives of others is the greatest gift you can give yourself!

And it’s not as difficult as you think. You can get started by identifying something that energizes and motivates you and that you feel deeply about. Then look for an initiative, cause, or organization in your community that aligns with your interests AND MAKE IT YOUR MISSION to reach out and pay-it-forward.

I guarantee you won’t be turned away and that you’ll expand your network by connecting with some great like-minded people in the process. That’s exactly what I did when I joined forces with an awesome group of people in my town who want to give parents an alternative when it comes to their children’s education. I’ve been giving of my time and talent to open a school that I know will have a positive impact on the children in my community. Here’s a link to a recent news article on NJ.com that will give you the scoop on how I personally put this strategy into action.

It’s been four years since I left the corporate world and I’m thrilled to say that my journey, as difficult as it’s been at times, has helped me get to know myself better and understand what I value most in my life.

In addition to living to give, it taught me to trust in the journey and that while I can’t always control what happens to me, I can have an enormous impact on the out-come of my situation by choosing to respond positively to it, and most important; if my life challenges don’t directly affect the my health and wellness and the wellness of my family and those I love and care about, then I’m truly blessed!
