Pantsuit Politics

Meet Sarah Stewart Holland, 1/2 of the popular Pantsuit Politics team.  Sarah and her co-host Beth Silvers are longtime friends, Southerners, and political junkies with differing perspectives – Sarah is a Democrat and Beth is a lifelong Republican.

Together, they started a podcast with this mission, “to keep it nuanced, ya’ll.”  In a very divided election, they have brought together many through their frank conversations about right, wrong, their own dreams for the future of their country, and their hopes for the political environment.

Scroll all the way down to enter their ‘Exit the Echo Chamber Challenge’ and take the chance to reach across the aisle to someone who you don’t agree with… respectfully.

How did you and Beth meet?

We went to college together and are sorority sisters!

What inspired you two to start the Pantsuit Politics podcast?

I’d had the idea for a female-based political podcast, but was thinking maybe I’d do interviews. Beth started guest posting on my blog and I realized we had a really good back and forth that would be a good fit for a podcast!

When did you launch your podcast?

We launched Pantsuit Politics in November 2015.

Why did you feel led to discuss politics?

Both of us have a passion for the subject and feel that civil discussion is hugely important in our current polarized environment.

How has creating Pantsuit Politics changed your lives?

Wow, our passionate community of listeners was something I really didn’t expect. We have people sharing incredibly personal struggles and telling us they’re depending on us to get them through. It’s a huge responsibility that has affected everything.

You both have jobs, kids, and an amazing podcast, how do you find a healthy balance with a busy schedule?

In the same way your heart expands every time you have a child, I’ve found my life expands to allow for work I love. Things that were never that important get dropped by the wayside (mainly TV let’s be honest) and I make space for things I’m passionate about.

You recently ran for office for the first time… and won… Congratulations, new City Comissioner of Paducah, Kentucky!

What was it like to run for City Commissioner in Paducah Why did you feel called to run for office?

My hometown is my heart. I really want it to continue to grow and thrive. When a seat opened up on the Commission, I knew I had to run because I’ve always been called to public service.

Running was a blast. I met so many amazing people and learned so much about a place I thought I already understood pretty well.

Are you ready to exit the Echo Chamber?

Try this 7-day Challenge the Pantsuit Politics team came up with to help you reach out to those who you don’t agree with, understand their perspective, share your own, and maybe even find some common ground to start fresh.
